75 Hard Style Challenge Reflection
Another day, another bonus post.
This is my second year doing Mandy Lee @oldloserinbrooklyn 75 Hard Style Challenge. Doing any big challenge like this has its ups and downs, and this is no exception. Before I talk about my experience doing it, here is Mandy’s post explaining the guidelines.
I also did a post earlier this year where I talked about my goals for this challenge, which you can see below.
How My Seasonal Clothing Inventory Can Help Me Take On Style Challenges

I’ll keep it real here: I actually forgot about my personal goals for this challenge. So I failed. These are my guidelines from the above post.
Where I Succeeded
I got dressed every single day, but I didn’t always style my looks. I did record just about every single day; there were a couple of days here and there where I forgot them, which is normal. But Emily Polner and I did a great job of documenting everything, and I loved looking at our shared album!
I succeeded with the no-buy for the most part. When it came to spending, I limited myself to accessories or items that weren’t clothing. I was super mindful with gifting when it came to clothes, and I feel really good about what I opted for, like below.
I did do a good job of wearing as many pieces of clothing as I could, opting for long-forgotten sweaters that live in the deep depths of my closet. This is a big win for me since I love my sweater collection.
I will say I think I did a pretty good job of reorganizing my clothing, and it’s easy to find whatever I’m looking for, for the most part. My pants are still a little chaotic, but it’s okay. I love having my jeans hung up because it’s so much easier to find them and pull them out.
Where I Failed
I was okay with style inspiration. As I write this, I’ve been working on setting up my spring mood board, so I’ve been looking online, but I cannot currently wear most of the items I am adding to this board. I also went online when I was creating a collage for the below post:
Exploring My Personal Aesthetics: Mood Boards Included
I was really inspired to create this post after reading another Substacker’s post about their made-up winter aesthetics. I’ve probably read this post about a million times, and I deffo resonate with a bunch of their ~ aesthetics.~
However, I did take inspiration from myself and random things. One day, I saw a grumpy cloud Jellycat, and I wore a grey and textured-inspired look. So, I’ll give myself a pass for this. I also shared a post recently about where I find inspo that’s not Pinterest.
Where To Get Inspired That’s Not Pinterest
Although this was a YouTube trend a while back, it’s something that’s been in the back of my mind. Don’t get me wrong, I live, laugh, and love Pinterest, but lately, my feed has been inundated with AI-generated content (specifically with hair and beauty) on there, or it’s been a lot of shopping content versus authentic content, which is frustrating, but…
I wore 2 of my skirts, that’s it, and I have 21 skirts currently sitting in my closet. So, this was a big failure on my part. Like I said above, I forgot that I even made this a goal for this challenge. I will also say NYC has been super cold and windy lately! So, the motivation to wear something flowy and fun is non-existent for me, and yes, I do have fleece-lined tights.
The Reflection
I can safely say that after this challenge, I am going to have a few pieces to declutter. There are pieces I have that I’ve not gravitated to for multiple seasons, which tells me it is time to let go.
I know this is all about styling, but I could have done more styling when I worked from home. When I don’t leave my apartment, I go for comfort always. So stretchy pants and crewneck were a saving grace when I was working from home because there is no fucking way you’ll catch me WFH in jeans.
I’m over all my winter clothes. I am not sure if it’s because this winter lasted five hundred years or the colors aren’t ones that I’m gravitating toward right now. I keep my winter colors more neutral, but I’ve been craving color. I tracked my outfits on INDYX for the first two months of the challenge, but I’ve found that in the last month, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I found that pink was a color that I gravitated toward a lot during this. It’s one of my power colors!
Overall, I think I did okay with this challenge, and I think that moving forward, I can do better, especially as I’m about to transition my spring wardrobe. I am going to try to track my outfits a bit more, whether it be on INDYX or just taking photos on my phone.
Favorites
Since I now have my own catalog of my outfits, I am going to share my seven favorites from this challenge!
