How To Style A Rugby Shirt
I was ~influenced~
This is another post where I pulled images from Pinterest. So credit to the original creators.
Some of the items have been sent to me as samples, but all have been selected by me. BTW, I do use affiliate links, so if you purchase something from my links, I might get a small commission, which is no extra cost to you. This helps keep Beccaland free!

I am not immune to trends.
I’ve been seeing rugby shirts popping up everywhere this fall, especially as we get further and further into autumn. I will be the first to admit that I was ~influenced~. I do not consider my personal style super preppy, but I do love a preppy look here and there. I feel like it kind of falls into my style since I love a lot of classic styles.
I think a lot about how preppy has taken a ton of different forms over the years, and it still blows my mind that the younger generations see preppy as athleisure, but that’s another post for another time…
Anyway, I saw this look on Pinterest and I was changed. It was a photo of Hailey Bieber. From there, I found myself doing a deep dive into the humble rugby shirt, and I thought it would be a great addition to my styling series! Should I rename this series, or continue calling it my styling series?

My Shirt
My Rugby shirt is from the J.Crew Outlet, and I am looking forward to styling it! This is the photo of it from my Indyx. BTW, if you are interested, I have my Indyx set so you can style me! If you’re not on Indyx yet, you can use the code “Bglasserbaker” to receive $10 at sign-up towards Indyx credit ( I also will get $10).
I chose the blue and green color story because these are two colors that I wear often in my wardrobe. They had a few different options, but this is the one that stood out to me. So, let’s get styling!
The Hailey Bieber ( Rugby Shirt + Short Skirt+ Taller Socks)

This is the type of look that influenced me to pick up one of these. I love how cute and casual it is. I also love how these were all paired with different types of shoes. I love the idea of pairing a short skirt or skort with this type of top. As I’m writing this, I’m considering wearing this look over the weekend. I recently added a black skort to my wardrobe, so I think I would likely pair it with that.
Rugby Shirt + Oversized Jeans

I am a sucker for oversized looks, so I’ve pinned at least ten different variations of this. It’s another cool and casual look, where you look like you’re trying a little bit but not super hard. It is just a shirt with jeans, but somehow looks a lot more elevated than a graphic tee. Although I love styling graphic tees, you can read about that below. For me, I think I would likely style mine with a darker wash denim or my barrel jeans!
Layering Top + Rugby Shirt + Jeans

As we get into colder months, I think adding a layer is always a good idea! I thought this would be great as we transition from fall into winter! I love the middle look, where there is a turtleneck underneath, because that’s likely how I would choose to layer it. I wrote about layering last year on here! My favorite layering pieces are these from Skims (similar).
How I Went From A Layers Hater to Lover
I hated layers for the longest time because I always felt bulky, like a jelly donut ready to explode and I always got too overheated to enjoy until the last couple of years.
Rugby Shirt + Long Skirt

I’m trying to be in my skirt era, and it's going sort of well. I 100% need another pair of tights for all the skirt looks that I want to recreate. Anyways, I am super drawn to inspiration where I can style my pre-existing skirt collection. I also feel like this combo makes it look like you have your life together, and I love that.
